Ficus microcarpa Moclame – Twisted Stem Care & Info Guide
Horty Hints
Feeling thirsty? Ficus Moclame prefers its soil to be slightly moist at all times. Underwatering can lead to browning crispy leaves.
Insufficient light can trigger leaf drop. Find a spot with plenty of indirect sunlight and your plant should quickly recover.
Give your Ficus a trim to maintain the desired shape, but be aware that sticky latex will ooze from the ends of the cut stems! This can be an irritant, so make sure to wash your hands if any comes into contact with your skin.
Light
Ficus microcarpa Moclame prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some partial shade. Harsh, direct sunlight may scorch the leaves.
Watering
Water when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil slightly moist at all times, but do not overwater as this will cause leaf drop.
Temperature
Will do fine in normal household temperatures but prefers slightly warmer environments: between 16-24°C. Avoid cold draughts.
Humidity
The Indian Laurel has no specific humidity requirements, although to give your plant an added boost, consider misting occasionally or relocate to a steamier room like the kitchen or bathroom.
Feed
Apply a weak dose of a fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season.
Height & Growth Rate
In their native environment, Ficus Microcarpa grow into very tall trees. Indoors they typically reach 1-2m. Trim to maintain desired height and shape. Moderately fast-growing.
Toxicity
Considered poisonous due to the latex in the sap, therefore keep away from children and animals. Avoid this plant if you have a latex allergy. Contains allergens that may result in asthma symptoms.
