Euphorbia trigona is a an easy care succulent that originates from West Africa. It makes a fascinating architectural addition to room designs, with it’s upright stems and ridges of short-lived leaves and thorns.
Also known as the African milk tree because of the milky sap contained in the stems it makes an urban style statement but is best avoided around children and pets.

Droppin’ like it’s hot? During summer months, be sure to keep the soil of your African Milk Tree slightly moist as leaf drop can be an indication of stress due to drought.
If you’re still seeing drop even after increased watering, don’t sweat it! The leaves on these plants are short-lived and die off on a regular basis. This is natural and the plant will generate more from time-to-time.
Turn up that HEAT! The Euphorbia Trigona rubra prefers a warmer environment, ideally no lower than 15°C.
Light
Euphorbia trigona rubra prefers bright lighting conditions. Direct sunlight is OK but take care to ensure this does not scorch the plant.
Watering
The African Milk Tree is drought tolerant for short periods. Allow the soil to dry out before watering to ensure the plant is not overwater.
Temperature
This plant prefers reasonably warm temperatures, ideally from 15-27°C. Avoid lower temperatures and cold draughts.
Humidity
The Euphorbia trigona rubra will do well in normal home humidity but prefers drier air. Avoid steamier rooms like the bathroom and shower.
Feed
Apply a half strength dose of liquid fertiliser in the summer months.

The African Milk Tree is a very slow-growing plant which typically reaches in ultimate indoor height of around 1 to 2 metres.
Toxicity
The sap is poisonous and an irritant. Avoid getting into your eyes or mouth and handle with care. Wash off immediately if in contact with skin. Not suitable for children or pets.
